Fidia – Capitoline Museums, Rome.

Fidia, Until May 5, 2024 – Capitoline Museums, Rome.

The Fidia exhibition, where over 100 works will be exhibited in the headquarters of Villa Caffarelli, inaugurates a series of five exhibitions. “The great masters of Ancient Greece”, dedicated to the greatest exponents of sculpture.

This is the first prestigious monographic exhibition dedicated to the legendary and emblematic Greek genius of classical art. Sculptor and extraordinary architect who lived in Athens in the 5th century BC, Phidias is known for being the father of the “wet pannage” technique. This technique enhances the shape of sculpted bodies through the effect of chiaroscuro.

He is also famous for having made colossal works of the golden age of ancient Athens, working as superintendent of the restoration of the Parthenon, taking care of its sculptural decorations and the magnificent chryselephantine statues (in gold and ivory) of Athena Parthenos and Zeus of Olympia, some never seen before.
